‘Shoal of Boeseman’s Rainbow fish’

Fish are one of my favourite and defiantly one of the most inspiring wildlife subject matters that I work on.

I love the fluidity and complexity involved in the composition of the groups of these wonderful creatures, and as a water lover myself, some of my most memorable and humbling moments have been surfing over reefs or sand in clear waters, with shoals of fish underneath me. Their tranquil yet mesmerising dance is a thing of absolute natural beauty.

Boeseman's Rainbow fish are currently critically endangered in the wild (and are on the IUCN Red list), due to being over harvested for their beauty. Like all varieties of Rainbow fish Boeseman’s are able to change colour and vibrancy depending on their mood. They can only be found in the Ayamaru Lakes of West Papua, Indonesia.

These little fresh water fish are reverse painted and gilded onto glass in 24kt gold leaf.
